The larger Pixel 3a XL is definitely spec-for-spec almost identical to the smaller Pixel 3a. The most significant difference is the bigger battery and larger display. Extra juice means more power to provide you through the entire day. You could check out the 3a XL if those are the highlights you wish.

One of the very helpful features of the Google Pixel 3 is Active Edge, which lets you squeeze the edges of the handset to call Google Assistant, and this is also present on the Pixel 3a, and that's something we did not expect presented the cheaper price.
